Horse Racing?

Horse Racing. Where horses gallop round a track for money, personally it's pointless. So a horse gallops round a track being whipped by a eager jockey that is hungry for the cup and the crowd bet on them winning. "Scotch Mist is coming in first, Toy Town is behind!" the commentator shouts, full of enthusiasm that these horse will win. Yes, they will but won't be so lucky in a few years.

A jockey shouts at a horse and whips like there's no tomorrow, the horse reacts be becoming scared; horses are extremely sensitive animals and can turn on a rider with the flip of a coin. Still, these riders lean up the neck, whip hard causing the horse a possible injury and pain, so the horse gallops faster.
'Misty Morning just fell over the fence', yes horses fall over fences, although the rider will fall as well and could possibly get trampled by the other galloping horses that are jumping over their heads. The rider tries to get away, clambering their horse onto it's legs,
Although some horses may never stand again. Broken legs. It will be shot in the head on the track right there, nicer for the horse to be put out of it's misery.
Is this what these horses deserve?

Though, race horses only race till the age of 6 or 7 roughly, then they are sold to owners or a shelter that is overflowing with unwanted horses, like the Blue Cross. Imagine, the horse you have loved goes round  corner, the jockey tries to catch up then the horse falls, the high pressure snaps it's legs as it was going too fast. How would you feel?
The owners of these horses, the prize winning ones will be treated as such, however the ones that don't win will be sold on,
Personally, this is more dangerous than cross country, the risk of being trampled, still, HORSES DIE FROM THIS. Despite the fact that these horses will die from racing, this sport carries on and people support it. Thousands of people support it. The Grand National will probably get more publicity than Burghley and Badminton combined, still people don't get this fact.

Is horse racing REALLY necessary?
